Copy and Paste Fonts: Every Unicode Style, and Where It Shows Up
Copy and paste fonts are not fonts. They are Unicode characters such as ๐ (MATHEMATICAL BOLD CAPITAL A, U+1D400) that look like styled letters. Type in the box below, pick a style, copy it and paste it into any text field. The look travels with the text because the characters themselves are different, so it shows on any device whose fonts can draw them.

Copy and paste fonts are ordinary text characters borrowed from parts of Unicode that were built for other jobs: mathematical notation, enclosed numbers, phonetic spelling, East Asian full-width text. A generator swaps each plain letter you type for its look-alike in one of those blocks. Nothing is installed and nothing is formatted, which is exactly why the result survives a paste into a bio, a display name or a comment box that offers no font menu at all.
That trick has limits, and they are specific. Some styles have no digits. Some letters were encoded years earlier in a different block, so a careless generator produces empty boxes. A few characters turn into color emoji.
This hub lays out all 27 styles our generator makes, what each one converts, and what we measured about which systems can draw them.

Characters, not typefaces: what lands on your clipboard
A real font is a file of drawings. When you pick Georgia or Helvetica in a word processor, the letter A stays the same character (U+0041) and only its drawing changes. That choice lives in the document's formatting, and formatting is the first thing that disappears when you paste into a plain text field.
A Unicode style works the other way round. The drawing stays whatever the app uses, but the character changes. ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฒ is four characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (U+1D400โ1D7FF), and the app on the other end draws them with whichever of its fonts contains them. That is why the bold survives where formatting would not.
The Unicode Standard is clear that these letters exist for mathematics, where a bold x and an italic x can mean different things in the same formula. Styling a username was never the plan. That history explains every quirk on this page: the gaps, the holes and the way screen readers announce them.
Fourteen copy and paste fonts side by side
The table compares the styles that replace whole letters. Each sample is the phrase "Copy and paste me 2026" run through our engine. Look at the end of each row: where the digits stay plain, the style has no digits in Unicode, and no generator can invent them.

Which systems can draw each style?
A pasted style only looks right if the reader's device has a font containing those characters. If it does not, the app either borrows a glyph from another font or draws an empty box. So the useful question is not whether a style is "compatible" but which systems ship fonts that cover it.
On 2026-10-27 we read the character map of every system font on macOS 26.5.1 (365 font files) and of the Android system fonts listed in the Android Open Source Project's font configuration. The table below shows, for each letter style, how many of its characters at least one font can draw. Every letter style came out complete on both systems.
Two limits matter. We did not measure Windows, because its fonts were not on the measuring machine, so the table makes no Windows claim. And a font being present does not prove a given app uses it; an app with its own font stack could still fall back differently. What the table does prove is that the characters are drawable on those two systems.

Match the style to where the text will live
The right style depends less on taste than on the field you are pasting into. Some fields only accept a short list of characters, some get searched, and some need numbers. Use this as a starting point, then look at the result on a second device before you commit.
Weight matters on small screens too. Thin styles such as script and plain italic have hairline strokes that blur at small sizes, while bold sans, bold cursive and bold fraktur keep their shape. If the name will appear tiny, in a comment thread or a member list, pick a heavier variant.
Finally, think about who has to type it. A styled display name is fine because nobody types it; friends find you by your plain username. A styled handle, where a field even accepts one, is something people can only copy, never type, and that is a real cost when someone wants to mention or search for you.
| Where it goes | Good picks | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Profile name or display name | Bold sans, bold cursive, small caps | Short is better; check it on another phone |
| Discord username | None | Discord usernames allow only aโz, 0โ9, underscore and period |
| Discord display name | Any letter style | Discord says display names may include special characters, spaces and emoji |
| Anything with a date or number | Bold, bold sans, double-struck, monospace | Italic, script and fraktur styles have no digits |
| One headline line in a post | Bold sans or bold serif | Do not style the whole post |
| Text people need to find by search | Leave it plain | Styled letters are different characters from plain ones |
| Gaming tag | Bold, monospace, fraktur | Name filters are often unpublished |
The 24 letters that live in another block
Unicode encoded a handful of styled letters long before the math block existed, in the Letterlike Symbols block (U+2100โ214F). When the math alphabets were added, Unicode left the matching slots empty and pointed to the older characters instead. There are 24 of these holes in the styles we generate.
A generator that simply adds a fixed number to each letter lands on those empty slots. We checked all 24 against every font in our measurement: not one font on macOS or Android draws any of them, so they show as boxes for everyone. Our engine substitutes the Letterlike characters, which is why โญ and โ look slightly different from their neighbors.
- Script (cursive), 11 letters: โฌ โฐ โฑ โ โ โ โณ โ and lowercase โฏ โ โด
- Fraktur (Old English), 5 capitals: โญ โ โ โ โจ
- Double-struck, 7 capitals: โ โ โ โ โ โ โค
- Italic, 1 letter: โ (U+210E, named PLANCK CONSTANT)
Six mistakes that make fancy text look broken
Most complaints about these styles trace back to a small set of causes. None of them is fixed by trying another generator; they are properties of Unicode itself.
- Expecting digits in a style that has none. "Born in 1999" in cursive keeps 1999 plain. Switch the numbers to bold or double-struck, or leave them as they are.
- Using a generator that fills the reserved slots. If the same few capitals (often H, R or C) turn into boxes everywhere, the tool used an empty code point.
- Styling accented letters. Unicode's math alphabets cover only AโZ and aโz, so รฉ, รฑ and รผ stay plain in every letter style.
- Turning a whole paragraph into styled characters. It is harder to read, and each styled word is a string of unusual characters to a screen reader or search box.
- Pasting into a field that only takes plain characters. Usernames and handles often reject anything outside a short list.
- Missing the emoji surprise. Circled โ and the filled squared letters ๐ ฐ ๐ ฑ ๐ พ ๐ ฟ are in both Apple Color Emoji and Noto Color Emoji, so they can show as colorful emoji instead of matching their neighbors.
How screen readers handle styled letters
Each styled character carries a formal name, such as MATHEMATICAL BOLD SCRIPT CAPITAL A. Screen readers differ in what they do with that: some announce the name letter by letter, some read the base letter, and some skip the character. We have not tested specific readers, so we will not tell you which does what.
The W3C's accessibility guidance says meaning and structure should not depend on visual presentation alone, and that real text with real styling is preferable to text that only looks styled. In practice that means keeping styled characters to decoration, such as a name or a short headline, and never putting essential information only in them.
Small caps, bubbles, lines and other effects
Not every style swaps in a whole alphabet. Thirteen of our 27 styles work differently, and each has its own gaps that come straight from what Unicode encodes.
| Style | Example | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Small caps | qแดษชแดข สแดx | q stays plain (its small capital isnโt drawn on Android); no small-capital x; digits plain |
| Superscript | แตโฑโฟสธ | q and Q stay plain (superscript q isnโt drawn on Apple or Android); C F S X Y Z use lowercase forms |
| Subscript | โโโโโ | Only 17 letters; no b c d f g q w y z |
| Bubble (circled) | โโจ โโโ | โ can render as emoji |
| Squared (filled) | ๐ ฑ๐ พ๐ พ๐ ฟ | Capitals only; ๐ ฐ ๐ ฑ ๐ พ ๐ ฟ are emoji |
| Strikethrough | sฬถtฬถrฬถiฬถkฬถeฬถ | A combining mark (U+0336) after each letter |
| Upside down | สxวส | No turned capital Q exists |
| Glitch (zalgo) | Stacked marks | Can overflow lines and get trimmed by apps |
Copy on one screen, paste on another
On a computer, select the styled line in the tool and use the copy button or Ctrl+C (โC on a Mac), then click into the target field and paste. On a phone, tap the copy button next to the style, switch apps, long-press the field and choose Paste.
Before you save, look at the preview the app gives you. If a letter shows as a box there, your own device cannot draw it; if it looks fine to you but a friend reports boxes, their device lacks the font. Either way, the fix is a different style, not a different generator.

Questions people ask
- Are copy and paste fonts real fonts I can install?
- No. They are Unicode characters, so there is nothing to download or install. The receiving app draws them with whatever fonts the reader's device already has.
- Why do some letters show as boxes?
- The device viewing the text has no font that contains that character, or the generator used one of Unicode's 24 reserved empty slots, which no font draws. Our engine never outputs a reserved slot.
- Why do my numbers not change?
- Italic, bold italic, script, bold script, fraktur and bold fraktur have no digits in Unicode. Bold, bold sans, sans-serif, double-struck and monospace do.
- Do these styles work on Windows?
- We have not measured Windows, so we make no claim either way. Our measurements cover macOS 26.5.1 and Android's system fonts, where every letter style was fully drawable.
- Can I use styled text in a Discord username?
- No. Discord's help center says usernames accept only aโz, 0โ9, underscore and period. Display names are different: Discord says they may include special characters, spaces and emoji.
- Will people find my styled name in search?
- Not reliably. Styled letters are different characters from plain ones. Unicode gives each one a compatibility mapping back to the plain letter, so software that normalizes text can match it and software that does not will miss it.
